Maharashtra Weather Today: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for heavy to extremely heavy rainfall across several districts of Maharashtra as monsoon activity intensifies. The state is expected to experience continuous rainfall until August 21, with a risk of localized flooding in some areas.

Districts under alert include Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Palghar, where heavy downpours will be accompanied by gusty winds reaching 50–60 km/h.

The IMD has also advised fishermen to avoid venturing into the sea, citing rough sea conditions and strong winds.

Red And Orange Alert In Maharashtra 

Red and Orange alerts for several regions in Maharashtra in view of the ongoing intense monsoon activity. A Red Alert has been issued for Pune and parts of South Vidarbha, including Chandrapur and Gadchiroli, where extremely heavy rainfall is expected, potentially leading to flooding and significant disruption.

Meanwhile, an Orange Alert is in effect for Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Palghar, Yavatmal, as well as Chandrapur and Gadchiroli. These districts are likely to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall, accompanied by gusty winds and possible waterlogging in low-lying areas. The public is advised to stay alert and take necessary precautions.

Mumbai Weather Update 

Mumbai experienced severe weather conditions on Saturday, with heavy rainfall triggering a landslide in Vikhroli that claimed two lives. Several low-lying areas of the city were submerged in waist-deep water, leading to major traffic disruptions across key routes.

The heavy downpour also impacted operations at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), where reduced visibility on the runway caused difficulties during the landing of an IndiGo flight.

According to IMD, rainfall is expected to continue across the city throughout the week. An orange alert remains in place until August 19, following the red alert issued on Saturday, warning of continued heavy to very heavy showers.

Authorities On High Alert As Flood Risk Rises In Maharashtra

In response to the worsening weather conditions, citizens are receiving real-time alerts via the Sachhet app, urging them to remain vigilant against potential disasters. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have been placed on standby to respond swiftly to any emergencies.

In Raigad district, the Amba River has crossed the danger mark, while the Kundalika River is also flowing above warning levels. Similarly, in Ratnagiri district, the Jagbudi and Kodavali rivers have risen beyond safe levels, increasing the threat of flooding in nearby areas.

The district administrations have issued flood safety advisories and are continuously monitoring the situation. Residents in vulnerable areas have been urged to stay alert, follow official guidelines, and be prepared to relocate if necessary.

Vikhroli Landslide Claims Two Lives

A landslide struck Jankalyan Society in Vikhroli (West) at approximately 2:39 AM, burying a hut under heavy debris. Four members of the same family were trapped. Tragically, Shalu Mishra (19) and Suresh Mishra (50) were declared dead, while Aarti Mishra (45) and Ruturaj Mishra (20) were rescued in stable condition.

The Mumbai Fire Brigade, along with the police and ward staff, promptly responded and led the rescue operation. Authorities continue to monitor the area for further risks as heavy rainfall persists in the city.
