Mumbai Local Train Update: In a bid to accelerate connectivity within the city, the Ministry of Railways has approved ten additional suburban trains for Navi Mumbai in the areas of Nerul, Belapur and Uran. The increase in the number of local trains will provide a respite to the people of Mumbai, for whom the railways act as the main mode of transportation in the city.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis took to his official X (formerly Twitter) account and wrote, "A special gift for Mumbaikars! Thank you, Honourable PM Narendra Modi Ji, and Honourable  Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw Ji, for initiating additional local train services."

Along with the message, CM also shared a letter from the Ministry of Railways confirming the approval and said, "My heartfelt thanks to Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji and Hon. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw Ji for honoring my request by starting additional local services: Nerul–Uran–Nerul (4 trips) and Belapur–Uran–Belapur (6 trips), as well as approving stations at Targhar and Gavhan!"

Mumbai Railway News: Project Details

- According to the official notice from the Railway Ministry, 10 new suburban trains will start operating on the Port Line.

- Out of the 10 new trains, four will run between Nerul and Uran and six between Belapur and Uran.

- The trains will have stoppages at the Targhar Gavhan Stations.

- People have been asking for these halts for years, since they mostly depend on road travel for last-mile connectivity.

- The Ministry has also cleared plans to increase train speeds on the Nerul-Uran and Belapur-Uran sections.

- Railway officials have been instructed to finish the work on the line as soon as possible. However, the exact date as to when the line will be operational has not yet been revealed by the ministry.
