Mumbai News: Mumbai police said a 70-year-old man tried to set himself on fire outside the Mantralaya building on Tuesday evening, alleging harassment caused by noise from factories near his home.
The man, identified as Prem Bajaj, poured kerosene on himself at the main gate of the state administrative headquarters. Security staff quickly intervened, stopped him and handed him over to the Marine Drive police station.

According to officials, Bajaj had been distressed by the constant noise from cashew polishing factories located near his residence in Navi Mumbai. These units reportedly operate round the clock, creating unbearable disturbance.
Police revealed that Bajaj had raised complaints multiple times with the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation and local administration, but his complaints were not addressed. The lack of action is believed to have pushed him towards the drastic step.
Bajaj was questioned by police and later released on a notice. Authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported during the incident.

In separate news, a 14-year-old boy was found dead by suicide at his Malad residence on Tuesday morning. Police said the child, whose identity has been withheld, was discovered hanging in his home. He was rushed to hospital but declared dead on arrival. No suicide note was recovered and the motive remains unclear.
Following an autopsy, the body was handed over to the family for last rites. Malad Police have registered an accidental death case and are examining the boy’s mobile phone. Officers are also speaking with his friends and relatives to determine if he had shared any personal concerns.
