Mumbai News: Mumbai police have arrested a 34-year-old autorickshaw driver from Mathura in Uttar Pradesh for allegedly raping and murdering a sex worker in Malad. The accused, identified as Chandrapal Ramkhiladi alias Neta, was taken into custody days after the crime, officials said on Tuesday.

The incident occurred on September 25 at Sawant Compound near Church Road in Malad. Police said they received a call about a woman lying unconscious at the spot. She was rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.

A post-mortem examination confirmed that the woman had been strangled. Following this, Malwani police registered a case of murder and began a probe.

CCTV Trail Leads To Accused

Investigators scanned CCTV footage from the area and identified the accused as an autorickshaw driver. The victim was recognised as a commercial sex worker. The video showed the man strangling her with her own dupatta after a heated argument over money.

Arrest In Mathura

Police teams traced the accused to his native place in Agra and later tracked him hiding in Mathura. He was arrested during a raid and confessed to the crime during questioning, police said.

He was produced before a local court and is being brought back to Mumbai on transit remand for further investigation.

In separate news, a 14-year-old boy was found dead by suicide at his home in Malad on Tuesday morning. Police said no suicide note was recovered, and the motive remains unknown. He was rushed to hospital but declared dead. After autopsy, the body was handed over to his parents. Malad police have registered an accidental death case and are examining his mobile phone. They are also speaking with friends and family to determine if he had shared any personal issues.
