Mumbai Local Trains cancelled: The Western Railway has announced the cancellation of 162 services, including suburban and long-distance services from May 31 to June 1 during a 36-hour mega-block, Times of India reported. The mega block has been undertaken to dismantle the elevated booking office in Kandivali.

The block is currently in place, as it is to be carried out from 1 pm on Saturday to 1 am on Monday, June 2.

A total of 162 trains will remain out of service, including 73 on Saturday and 89 on Sunday, as per the officials of the Western Railway, Times Now reported. The terminated services also include some long-distance trains at Vasai Road instead of Borivali, while others will start from Bhayandar rather than Borivali.

Western Railway's Chief Public Relations Officer, Vineet Abhishek, said, "During the block period, suburban and mail/express trains will be operated on the fast corridor."

The mega block is in line to extend the sixth line beyond Kandivali up to Borival, expected to significantly reduce delays for long-distance trains.

The sixth line currently handles nearly 20 mail and express trains daily and is only operational between Bandra Terminus and Kandivali.

Once the sixth line is fully operational till Borivali, the snarl on Mumbai’ choked corridors is expected to be eased and provide relief to daily commuters and long-distance travellers.

"The sixth line is a dedicated corridor for long-distance trains, and extending it up to Borivali will help us streamline operations and reduce delays," said a senior Western Railway official. "We are in the final stages of completing this stretch, and it can open soon after the monsoon,” the report added.
