In a bid to accelerate major infrastructural projects, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has set deadlines for major metro projects in the state, including Mumbai’s Metro Line 2B (DN Nagar to Mandale) and Pune’s Metro Line 3 (Maan-Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar). During a review meeting held at Sahyadri Guest House, Fadnavis emphasised the need for the timely completion of these projects using advanced technologies and efficient planning.

The deadline for Mumbai’s Metro Line 2B is March 31, 2027, while the deadline for the Pune Metro is March 31, 2026, as quoted by Pune Pulse.

Mumbai Metro Line 2B

- The Mumbai Metro Line 2B will serve stations at Mandalay, Mankhurd, BSNL, Shivaji Chowk, and Diamond Garden. 

- Once completed, the metro line will connect V.N. Purav Marg and the Shiv-Panvel Highway, with plans to link the Harbour Railway Line at Mankhurd and Metro 8A at Mandalay.

- The line is 23.6 km long and is fully elevated. The line is solely developed by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).

Pune Metro Line 3

- The Pune Metro Line-3 is a 23 km fully elevated metro rail line connecting the IT hub of Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar. 

- It was originally scheduled for completion in March 2025, but due to operational roadblocks, the date has been pushed to next year in 2026.

- This public-private partnership project is being developed by a consortium of Tata Group’s TRIL Urban Transport Private Limited (TUTPL) and Siemens Project Ventures. Construction began in November 2021, with the first metro pillar constructed in April 2022.
