Mumbai Metro Line 5 Update: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday announced that new flyovers will be built alongside the Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan underground Metro Line 5 in the upcoming months. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Fadnavis stated that roads along the metro line will also be widened as part of the ambitious project. The announcement was made during a high-level meeting of the metro corridor. The move is likely to benefit thousands of commuters in Thane and other regions by significantly cutting the travel time and reducing traffic congestion.

In his post on X, Fadnavis emphasised that apart from reducing the traffic congestion, the project will also give a boost to the financial activities.

"In view of the growing population and persistent traffic congestion from goods transport, it was decided to implement an independent project featuring an underground metro, road widening, and new flyovers — offering a lasting traffic solution and driving urban and industrial growth. Both metro and road widening projects will progress in parallel, ensuring faster, safer, and seamless connectivity. These coordinated efforts aim to ease traffic and boost regional development," Fadnavis stated in his post.

Apart from this, he also stated that the metro line 5 will provide convenience to the residents of several regions, including Thane, Bhiwandi, Kalyan, and Ulhasnagar. He further ensured that the project would not be affected due to the financial issues.

"Through MMRDA’s Metro Line-5, lakhs of citizens in Thane, Bhiwandi, Kalyan, and Ulhasnagar will soon access modern, efficient public transport. A proposed extension to Ulhasnagar and Chikhloli near Ambernath is under active study to enhance regional connectivity. Recognising Bhiwandi’s growing importance as a freight hub, it was ensured that financial constraints won’t hinder progress. It was also directed to incorporate suggestions from local public representatives, making the project inclusive and people-focused," Fadnavis added.
