Mumbai Metro Mandale Depot: The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) on November 13 shared new details about the Mandale Metro Depot via a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), marking it as Asia’s largest and most advanced metro facility.

The state-of-the-art facility, developed by MMRDA, spans 32 hectares and is designed to fully support the operations of the elevated Metro Line 2B connecting DN Marg to Mandale in Mankhurd.

Key Highlights Of The Mumbai Metro’s Mandale Depot

- The Mandale Metro Depot is Asia’s first elevated and largest depot, spanning an extensive 32 hectares.

- The Mandale Metro Depot is designed with a two-level structure to accommodate 72 metro rakes, essential for servicing the 23.6-km elevated Metro Line 2B, connecting DN Nagar to Mandale in Mankhurd.

- The facility’s core is a G plus 3 Depot Control Centre, designed to monitor train operations, maintenance schedules, and safety systems in real time.

- The depot includes a 175 KLD Effluent and Sewage Treatment System to recycle water for internal cleaning and landscaping within the premises, Free Press Journal reported.

- To streamline internal functions, the site also contains over 100 kilometres of underground utilities. Additionally, noise and dust suppression systems have been installed to minimise the depot’s impact on the surrounding environment.

- The Mandale Depot will feature India’s longest metro track at 965 metres, which is crucial for rigorously testing trains before they are introduced into daily passenger service.

- To enhance efficient management and direction of train movement, the depot includes four shunting necks and one elevated neck.
