To enhance last-mile connectivity, American MNC Uber, on Thursday, November 13, announced a partnership with the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) for Mumbai Metro Line-3 to make daily travel for commuters more seamless and connected. The collaboration will provide commuters with easy first‑ and last‑mile rides using the Uber app.

Under the new collaboration, Uber will offer Auto, Moto and Cab rides from designated pickup zones outside stations located on Line 3. Signage at stations, in-app navigation and geofencing at the pickup points will help commuters to reach the Uber pickup points, thereby helping reduce traffic and congestion. 

“Our vision for Mumbai Metro is not just about moving people quickly but making every connection seamless. Uber’s last-mile pickup zones and clear signage turn stations into true mobility hubs and enhance the commute for lakhs of passengers,” said Ashwini Bhide, the Managing Director of MMRCL, quoted Mid-Day.

Uber’s Tie-Ups With Public Transit Systems 

Uber is partnering with public transit systems across the country, including Lucknow and the Delhi-Ghaziabad Rapid Rail, to give a smooth experience for its commuters. The company has already added metro-ticketing services on its app in Delhi, Chennai and Mumbai Metro Line 1, with plans of extending it to Line 3. 

Shiva Shailendran, Director of Consumer Growth at Uber India and South Asia said, “Mumbai’s commuters deserve travel that is simple and connected. We are proud to help commuters step out of the metro and into an Uber within minutes, reimagining city travel to be efficient and safe.”

Mumbai Metro Mandale Depot

In a separate development, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) on November 13 shared new details about the Mandale Metro Depot via a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), marking it as Asia’s largest and most advanced metro facility.

The state-of-the-art facility, developed by MMRDA, spans 32 hectares and is designed to fully support the operations of the elevated Metro Line 2B connecting DN Marg to Mandale in Mankhurd.

The Mandale Metro Depot is Asia’s first elevated and largest depot, spanning an extensive 32 hectares. It is designed with a two-level structure to accommodate 72 metro rakes, essential for servicing the 23.6-km elevated Metro Line 2B.
