Mumbai Metro Update: In a major boost to infrastructure of the financial capital of India, Mumbai Metro 3 stretch from Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) to Worli will start operations within the next 100 days, announced deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde. Meanwhile, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis directed officials to draft a new schedule for completing all metro projects in the MMRDA area, emphasising the importance of avoiding delays.

“Plan for 50 km of metro to be started every year from next year. At least 23 km of metro will be started this year. Also, Metro-3 will add 20 to 25 km to it,” he said.

The 10-station Aqua Line stretch, which covers BKC to Aarey, includes nine underground stations and was developed at a cost of Rs 14,120 crore.

The 33.5-km Metro Line 3 corridor, running from Navy Nagar in south Mumbai to Aarey Depot in the north centre, is expected to ease traffic woes, once fully operational.

The project will connect Mumbai’s city centre to the suburbs and integrate with other transport systems, including metro lines, monorail, suburban rail, inter-city rail, and Mumbai International Airport.

In another update, Pune's Metro services are set to extend their operational hours until 11 PM by the end of January 2025 in response to the growing demand from commuters. Currently, the last trains on both operational routes —the Vanaz-Ramwadi and Pimpri-Swargate corridors depart at 10 PM.

The proposed one-hour extension aims to accommodate late-night travelers, including those arriving from the railway station and airport, as well as those leaving their workplaces late at night. This change will add six additional trips on both routes after 10 PM, running at a frequency of 10 minutes. It is expected to benefit late-night travelers, providing greater convenience and reducing waiting times.
