Chennai Weather: Chennai has been witnessing wet spells with drizzle in multiple areas on Thursday. The rain is likely to intensify from Friday onwards, January 10. A yellow alert has been issued for later this week with a chance of thunderstorms and lightning. Chennai started with fog and mist on Friday morning, as per the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). The reason for rain, as stated by some solo forecasts, is the induction of Easterly waves in many parts of South and Delta Tamil Nadu. The interaction is going to trigger rain in parts of Tamil Nadu, including Chennai. Additionally, throughout the weekend, scattered severe rains (64.5 mm–115.5 mm) are predicted over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal.

A solo weather forecast by the username of Delta Weatherman (Hemachander R) on X, formerly Twitter, said, "Due to interaction of mid level westerlies and low level easterlies KTCC including Chennai likely to see rather heavy to heavy rainfall activity during Jan 11-13th, 2025. Enjoyable winter rains for Chennai may become harmful for Tamilnadu farmers."

Chennai Weather: IMD Forecast

According to the IMD, the maximum temperature will be 29 degrees Celsius, with the minimum temperature settling at 21 degrees Celsius. Amid rain, the city will continue to experience fog throughout the day. As IMD predicted, the fog will continue to take over the city for a few days, lowering the possibility of a clear sky. Adding to that, the IMD stated that there will be rain soon.
