Mumbai Metro Yellow Line 2B Launch: The Mumbai Metro's Line 2B, popularly known as the Yellow Line, spanning 23.64 km between Andheri and Mankhurd, is nearing its completion.

According to Lokmat Times, 78 to 83 per cent of civil work has been completed as of mid-2025. Speaking of specifics, pile cap work is 98 per cent complete, and pier works are 92 per cent complete.

Moreover, 87 per cent of the girders have been installed. The last station, Mandale in Mankhurd, which is also a depot, is 98 per cent complete.

In April 2025, the trial run began for Phase 1, a 5.4 km stretch between Mandale and Diamond Garden. The Mumbai Metro Regional Development Authority (MMRDA) is aiming to operationalise this stretch by the end of 2025.

The full commissioning of Line 2B is likely to be in a phased manner and gradually between 2026 and 2027. Manufactured by BEML, six-coach trains will run on Line 2B. The rakes are designed with advanced features like regenerative braking, CCTV cameras and charging points.

As the ridership is expected to cross 10 lakh by 2031, the line 2B as part of the Mumbai Metro network expansion will help significantly in decongesting city roads and providing faster travel.

The Yellow Line is expected to cut the travel time between eastern and western suburbs by 50-75 per cent, when compared to peak hour traffic.

The yellow line, connecting DN Nagar in Andheri to Mandale in Mankhurd, is an entirely elevated corridor with 20 stations. It passes through key areas of the city, including Bandra, Kurla, Chembur and Mankhurd.
