Mumbai News: Mumbai commuters may soon get access to the entire Metro-3 Aqua Line from Colaba to Seepz, with authorities aiming for a launch around Dussehra, October 2. Once operational, the 33.5-km route will reduce travel between Colaba and Aarey Colony to just one hour, a significant cut from the two to three hours spent by road during peak traffic.
Current Status Of Mumbai Metro-3 Phases
The Aqua Line is being built in three stages. Phase one, connecting Aarey Colony to Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC), opened on October 7, 2024. The second phase from BKC to Worli became functional on May 9, 2025. The final stretch, from Worli to Cuffe Parade, is in its last stages of preparation.
Mumbai Metro Phase 3 Key Stations And Cost
According to a News 18 report, the third phase includes several important stations: Science Museum, Mahalaxmi, Mumbai Central, Grant Road, Girgaon, Kalbadevi, CSMT, Hutatma Chowk, Churchgate, Vidhan Bhavan, and Cuffe Parade. The project cost for this section is reported to be Rs 9,785 crore.
Safety Checks Before Opening
On Friday, the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) conducted a preliminary inspection of the final corridor. A final safety review is expected soon. If clearance is granted, the complete line could be opened by late September or early October, according to reports.
Mumbai Metro Line 3: Station Updates
Among the upcoming stations, the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) Metro station is almost ready. Recent images shared online highlighted its modern glass façade and arched entrance, reflecting the line’s updated design.
Connectivity With Other Lines
The Aqua Line will connect with multiple transport systems. It will link with Metro Line 1 at Marol Naka, Metro Line 2B at BKC/ITO (via a planned skywalk), and Metro Line 6 at Aarey JVLR (still under construction). Interchanges are also planned at Mumbai Central, Dadar, CSMT and Churchgate, providing easy access to suburban rail networks.
Why the Line Matters
The Aqua Line is expected to serve up to 13 lakh passengers daily once fully operational. Already, phase one has reduced around 6.5 lakh car trips every day. Phase two has seen over 32,000 daily riders within days of opening, linking important hubs such as BKC, Worli, and Dadar.
Travel times are set to reduce sharply. For instance, Andheri to Cuffe Parade will take 45–50 minutes by Metro compared with 90–120 minutes by road. Similarly, BKC to Worli will be a 15-minute ride, far shorter than the usual one hour by road.
