Mumbai News: A Reddit post has gone viral after a user shared how they were fined by railway staff even though they had purchased a ticket through the official UTS app.
The passenger, using the handle @VegetableOil2180, explained that the ticket amount was deducted through their UPI app, but the ticket never showed up in the UTS application when the ticket checker asked for it. As a result, they were made to pay a penalty of Rs 260.
“The money was deducted, I can see the transaction, but the ticket just didn’t appear on the UTS app,” the user wrote.
The user also claimed this was not an isolated case. A few months earlier, their mother had faced the same problem—money was deducted but no ticket was generated. She too was fined by the authorities.
The passenger questioned why commuters should be held responsible for technical errors in the railway’s own ticketing platform. They argued that proof of payment from UPI apps should be considered valid until the ticket reflects in the system.
“It feels unfair. If the official app fails, why should passengers be punished?” the user said.
The post has sparked discussion online, with several others pointing out that such glitches create unnecessary stress for travellers. The Reddit user asked whether others had faced similar issues and wanted to know how such cases can be officially reported to prevent repeat fines.
