Mumbai-Nashik Highway Kharegaon Underpass: The Kharegaon Underpass, which connects both sides of the Mumbai-Nashik Highway, has been shut down for over four months to private and heavy vehicles starting today, December 15, to facilitate essential widening work on the highway.

Authorities have advised commuters to anticipate traffic diversions and delays along the route as the Kharegaon Underpass will remain closed from December 15 to April 9, Times of India reported.

Kharegaon Underpass Closed: Check Alternative Route

The closure will significantly impact the commuters from Kalwa-Mumbra, Navi Mumbai, Bhiwandi and Kalyan-Dombivli who usually use this route to travel to and from Nashik, Gujarat, Panvel, and the Konkan region. Authorities have advised these commuters to use alternative routes.

- According to the traffic advisory, vehicles coming from the Mumbai side towards Kharegaon must turn left at the Kharegaon Toll Plaza and pass through Gammon Parsik Circle.

- Vehicles travelling from Nashik must divert via Saket Cut.

- Vehicles heading towards Bhiwandi and Thane should follow the Kharegaon Parsik Circle-Gammon Circle-Kharegaon Toll Plaza route and then continue via Kharegaon-Kalwa Naka to reach their destination.

The Thane Traffic Police has clarified that the closure of the Kharegaon underpass will not affect emergency services and the essential vehicles, such as ambulances, fire engines, and police vehicles, are fully exempt from the traffic restrictions.

Dense Fog Triggers Multi-Vehicle Collision On Delhi-Mumbai Expressway

In a separate incident, a major tragedy struck the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway in the early hours of Monday, December 15, as dense fog led to a multi-vehicle collision involving approximately 20 vehicles, NDTV reported. The massive pile-up claimed the lives of at least four people and left several others injured.
