Mumbai News: The Mumbai police have announced a ban on gatherings of five or more people from January 9 to 23. This restriction will take effect at midnight on January 9 and will remain in place until the same time on January 23.

Officials have stated that this is a routine measure and there are no specific intelligence reports prompting the order. However, the police cited concerns over potential "breaches of peace and disturbances of public tranquillity" in the city.

According to The Hindu report, nder these restrictions, assemblies, processions and the use of loudspeakers, musical bands and firecrackers will not be allowed. Exceptions to the order include gatherings for weddings, funerals, events in cooperative societies, social associations, companies and government activities.

In separate news, a 41-year-old woman, Reshma Muzaffar Qazi, allegedly stabbed her 62-year-old mother, Sabira Bano Azgar Sheikh, to death in Mumbai's Qureshi Nagar, during a heated argument. Reshma reportedly believed her mother favoured her elder sister, which had caused long-standing resentment between them.

Sabira, who lived with her son in Mumbra, had visited Reshma's home when the altercation occurred. The dispute escalated when Reshma accused her mother of bias, leading to a violent confrontation. In a fit of rage, Reshma grabbed a knife from the kitchen and fatally stabbed Sabira. After the murder, Reshma walked into the Chunabhatti police station and confessed to the crime.

Police officers then visited the scene, confirmed Sabira's death, and arrested Reshma. Authorities are investigating the motive behind the crime and assessing Reshma's mental condition while questioning family members for further details.
