Mumbai: A 44-year-old woman, Renu Katre, reportedly died by suicide at her home in Kandivali East. She was the wife of Bapu Katre, a sub-registrar with the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA). According to Mumbai Police, Renu had previously accused her husband of harassment before taking the extreme step by hanging herself.
A case has been registered under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and further investigation is underway.

"The deceased's brother said that she took this step due to a dispute on Saturday night and it is a case of murder. A case has been registered under Section 108 of the BNS and further investigation is being carried out," officials said.

In a separate incident, a 28-year-old woman from Vasai died by suicide on July 17 after allegedly facing constant mental and physical abuse from her husband. She had consumed rat poison a day earlier at her home following repeated harassment. The Mandvi Police have registered a case of abetment to suicide against her husband, who is currently absconding.
According to the FIR filed by the woman’s mother, the victim was frequently assaulted and mentally tortured, especially when her husband returned home drunk. She was taken to KEM Hospital in Mumbai but could not be saved. Based on the post-mortem report and family’s complaint, police registered a case under Sections 108 and 115(2) of the BNS. The investigation is being led by Sub-Inspector Chandru Patil with support from Bhoiwada Police.
