Kunal Kamra Controversy: Mumbai police have issued a third summons to comedian Kunal Kamra in connection with an FIR regarding his comments about Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister, Eknath Shinde. Kamra, who is currently out on interim anticipatory bail from the Madras High Court until April 7, was expected to cooperate with the police inquiry early this week.

The Khar police initially requested Kamra to report to the police station by April 15. However, he did not appear, prompting the issuance of a third summons requiring him to join the investigation by April 5, according to police sources cited by the Indian Express.

As per the report, the police are actively collecting statements from audience members who attended Kamra's show, "Naya Bharat," recorded on February 2 at the Habitat studio in Khar. More than 20 witnesses, including audience members, technicians and hotel staff, have been summoned to provide their accounts. Approximately 70 people were present at the event.

Kunal Kamra Controversy

Kamra is facing a total of four FIRs due to his remarks during the stand-up performance. The initial FIR was filed on March 24 at MIDC police station, following a complaint from Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel. Three additional FIRs were subsequently lodged by Shiv Sena officials in various districts of North Maharashtra.

The police have stated that they are investigating the allegations against Kamra by speaking to those who were present at the show, despite having a video recording of the entire performance. The first two summons issued to Kamra went unanswered and after the video of the show circulated online, Shiv Sena workers vandalised the venue on March 23. Twelve individuals were arrested in connection with this incident but were later released on bail.

Multiple FIRs Against Kamra

Authorities have indicated that all FIRs against Kamra will be treated as a single case due to the shared location, witnesses and legal provisions involved. He has been charged under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, including Section 353(1)(b) for spreading false statements, Section 352 for inciting a breach of peace and Section 356(2) for defamation.

Kamra has not yet faced questioning by the police as he left Mumbai shortly after the controversy erupted. A police team attempted to reach him at his home in Mahim but was unsuccessful, as the comedian is currently in Puducherry.
