Mumbai News: Mumbai's infamous Thak Thak Gang has resurfaced with yet another daylight theft, this time near the SLR Bridge in Kurla. A man’s iPhone was snatched from inside his car in a matter of seconds, with the entire act caught on the vehicle’s dashcam.

The video reveals the gang’s well-known distraction tactic. One member knocks on the car window to divert the driver’s attention, while another approaches from the opposite side. In that brief moment of confusion, an accomplice slips in, grabs the phone and flees before the victim can react.
The victim, identified as Saransh, lodged an FIR at Vinoba Bhave Police Station immediately after the incident. Police have started scanning CCTV footage from the locality in a bid to trace the culprits. Meanwhile, Mumbai Police have issued an advisory urging motorists to stay alert, especially in traffic or crowded areas. Officials have advised against rolling down windows or unlocking car doors if approached by strangers.

Stolen Phone Was A Gift
In the viral footage, Saransh can be heard saying the stolen device was an iPhone 16 Pro — a special gift from his father and brother. The loss appeared to leave him visibly emotional while recounting the incident.
Public Reaction
The case has sparked debate online, with many users sharing their own experiences of similar thefts. One user wrote, “One-inch window opening is enough, so they can’t put their hand inside.” Another recalled a similar robbery involving his mother back in 2008, criticising the lack of action despite numerous such cases being reported.
The Thak Thak Gang has a long record of similar crimes in Mumbai, Delhi and Meerut. Their hallmark method involves creating chaos to distract drivers before making a quick getaway with valuables.
