Mumbai- Konkan Ro Ro Ferry: Travelling from Mumbai to the Konkan coast will soon become quicker and more comfortable with the launch of a new roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) ferry service between Mumbai and Ratnagiri. The M2M Ferries-operated route will significantly reduce travel time, cutting the long 10–12-hour road journey to less than five hours. The ferry will cover the Mumbai–Jaigad stretch in only three hours, offering a faster and scenic alternative for passengers heading towards the coastal belt.
Nitish Rane Confirms Ro Ro Ferry Launch
Maharashtra Ports Minister Nitesh Rane, who recently inspected the ferry, confirmed that the service will begin operations on September 1 after successful test runs. Rane shared the update on social media, calling it a major boost for connectivity between Mumbai and the Konkan region.

“Konkan Railway and the Mumbai– Goa Highway are crucial links connecting Konkan and Mumbai. Now, a new sea route is being introduced for the people of Konkan,” Rane posted. Expressing pride as a native of the region, he added, “I got the opportunity to conduct a preliminary inspection of it. As a native of Konkan, I feel rightly proud of this opportunity.”
Mumbai To Ratnagiri Ro Ro Farry Ticket Fares And Vehicle Options
The Ro-Ro ferry service will offer four travel categories, Economy, Premium Economy, Business and First Class providing options to suit different budgets.
Economy Class: Rs 2,500 per person
Premium Economy: Rs 4,000 per person
Business Class: Rs 7,500 per person
First Class: Rs 9,000 per person
According to a Times Now report, passengers can also carry their own vehicles for convenient onward travel. Vehicle fares are set at Rs 6,000 for cars, Rs 1,000 for two-wheelers and Rs 600 for bicycles. The vessel can accommodate around 50 cars and 30 two-wheelers in one trip.
Mumbai To Ratnagiri Ro Ro Farry Service Schedule and Expansion Plans
Initially expected to launch before Ganesh Chaturthi, the service was postponed due to adverse weather conditions. Rane said improved conditions have now made it possible to begin test runs, with the commercial service starting from Bhau Cha Dhakka at 6:30 AM. After reaching Vijaydurg, the ferry will depart for its return trip within two hours.
