Samruddhi Expressway: The Hindu Hrudaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg is on the verge of its full launch, with the final stretch connecting Igatpuri to Mumbai expected to open in February. This ambitious six-lane expressway spans 701 kilometres and is anticipated to significantly cut travel time while enhancing connectivity across Maharashtra.
Mumbai To Nagpur In 8 Hrs
Currently, the expressway operates from Nagpur to Igatpuri, having already improved travel for thousands of commuters by drastically reducing journey durations. Once the last 76-kilometre segment is completed, the travel time between Mumbai and Nagpur will drop from 16 hours to just eight, marking a major advantage for both individuals and businesses.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis have played pivotal roles in realising this vision. Dr Anilkumar Gaikwad, Managing Director of the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), has been instrumental in the successful execution of this project, known for his expertise in large-scale infrastructure initiatives.
Samruddhi Mahamarg Expressway Features
The Samruddhi Mahamarg is notable for its modern technology and careful design. With a design speed of 150 km/h, it promises quick journeys. The expressway includes 65 flyovers, six tunnels and 24 interchanges, facilitating smooth travel. A cutting-edge twin tunnel near Kasara employs German technology, featuring fire sensors, water mist systems and high-speed jet fans, ensuring safety for all travellers.
Environmental considerations are also paramount, with over 80 structures built for safe wildlife crossings. The expressway will house 30 fuel stations and 21 emergency response vehicles, enhancing convenience and safety for users.

Connecting ten districts directly and benefiting 14 others indirectly, the project aims to stimulate industrial growth and create job opportunities. Additionally, plans for 18 smart towns along the route target local industries, aiming to reduce urban migration and promote rural development.
Samruddhi Mahamarg Expressway Cost
With an estimated cost of Rs 67,000 crore, the Samruddhi Mahamarg has already generated Rs 1,100 crore in toll revenue from 1.52 crore vehicles within two years, highlighting its economic potential.
