Mumbai Toll Tax Exemption: Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Monday declared that light motor vehicles will be exempt from paying tolls at all five entry points to Mumbai. The key decision was taken during the last cabinet meeting of the Maharashtra government before the Assembly elections.

Sources, cited by News 18 indicate that the new rule will take effect from tonight.

Commuters can now pass through all five toll booths—Dahisar, Mulund, Vashi, Airoli, and Thane Naka—without paying tolls for small vehicles, according to the latest announcement.

The government’s more is going to benefit daily commuters, as they would be able to save a lot of money. However, the toll on the newly constructed Atal Setu will be applicable as per the rates fixed by the authorities.

Since 2000, motorists in Mumbai have been paying tolls at the city's entry points, a policy introduced by the Maharashtra Government to recover the expenses incurred in building flyovers across the region. Every day, more than six lakh vehicles travel in and out of the city.
