Mumbai’s Vidyavihar road over bridge (ROB) is likely to open in April 2026 after a long delay. The ROB will bring much needed relief to commuters who end up taking longer routes to cross the railway tracks. This in turn increases the travel time during peak hours of traffic. The ROB plans to connect Lal Bahadur Shastri (LBS) Marg with Ramkrishna Chemburkar Marg. Currently, commuters coming from Mumbai’s eastern suburbs have to take longer routes through Ghatkopar or Kurla to cross the railway tracks. This results in massive traffic following an overwhelming number of vehicles using the same road.

Vidyavihar ROB Timeline

Vidyavihar ROB was scheduled to be completed by December 2024. The deadline, however, was shifted due to multiple reasons. According to the BMC, there were a number of tasks that had to be done before carrying out the project. It included moving stormwater drains, shifting ticket counters on both sides of the tracks, removing around 80 illegal structures, and transplanting trees. Additionally, they needed more steel than they expected, which also slowed things down, reported the free press journal.
