Mumbai witnessed intense rainfall on Sunday night, which continued to lash city till Monday morning. The heavy downpour caused widespread waterlogging and brought vehicular movement across the city to a halt.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red and orange alerts for various parts of the city amid ongoing heavy showers.
“Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and intense spells of rain with gusty winds reaching 50-60 kmph very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Mumbai during next 3-4 hours. Take precautions while moving out,” the IMD posted on X.

The department also forecasts persistent downpours throughout the week, with an overcast sky and continuous rain likely on Monday. Temperatures are expected to hover between a minimum of 24°C and a maximum of 31°C.
Eight weather stations in Mumbai, including Borivali, Santacruz, Powai, Mulund, Chembur, Worli, Colaba, and Alibag, are under red alert on Monday. An orange alert has been sounded for Navi Mumbai, Thane and Kalyan.
The southwest monsoon made an early entry into Maharashtra on Sunday, marking the earliest onset in 35 years. The monsoon is now gradually moving toward Mumbai and surrounding regions and is expected to cover more areas over the next few days.
