The alignment of the Gokhale bridge with CD Barfiwala flyover in Andheri will be open to traffic on July 1, the BMC announced on Wednesday. Driving from Juhu towards Andheri East or the Western Express Highway will now be possible thanks to this improvement.

After the Gokhale Bridge incident, the mismatch between the two bridges was discovered. To align the two flyovers' levels, the BMC started laying the groundwork on April 14.

Concrete work to align the connecting girders of the Barfiwala flyover and Gokhale bridge had to be done during the monsoon season as well.

It was also imperative that there be no rain for around six hours following the alignment work's conclusion. A unique rainproof shed arrangement was created at the work location in consideration of this requirement as well as the likelihood of rain during the allotted six hours.

Fortunately, there was no rain for around twelve hours, including the six hours that followed.

To raise one side of the bridge's two flyovers to the same level, the civic body is investing nearly Rs 3 crore. The Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VJTI) reported to the BMC on March 19, 2024, that the two bridges could be merged without destroying the Barfiwala flyover. Experts from IIT-Bombay later confirmed this view.

Built in 2008, the Barfiwala Flyover would link the north-south arms of the historic Gokhale Bridge—which has stood since 1960—originating in Juhu. The latter was destroyed in 2022, and a new bridge was built in its place. It opened for vehicle traffic on February 26 of this year.
