Naigaon police detained a man and his wife on Tuesday for reportedly killing his ex-girlfriend, a 29-year-old hair stylist, after she refused to retract a rape case she made against him five years ago. The couple allegedly disposed of her body in Pardi, Gujarat's Valsad district, around 180 kilometers from Mumbai.

The police claim that Naina Ramchandra Mahat, a citizen of Nepal, traveled to Mumbai with her brother and sister in 2016. After paying a 4 lakh security deposit, the three siblings originally rented a one-bedroom apartment with a kitchen at Sunteck City development in Naigaon East.

The accused, Manohar Ravishankar Shukla, 34, a costume fittings worker, and Mahat, a hair stylist in Bollywood, met in 2016 while working on a set. Until Shukla's marriage to Poornima (30) in 2019, the two were having an affair. A rape case was filed against Shukla under section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) as a result of Mahat's anger, which led her to go to the Waliv police.

According to police, the murder occurred on August 9 and was discovered after Mahat's elder sister Jaya filed a missing person's report. Jaya, a make-up artist, said she was in Khandala for a shoot when she discovered Naina was unreachable.

Jaya stated that she had been residing in Nalasopara for the past few months following a disagreement with her sister regarding Shukla. She said, “Shukla has always been a bad influence on Naina.”
