Mumbai Rain News: Amid heavy rain alerts issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), several flights bound for Mumbai have been diverted to Ahmedabad due to adverse weather conditions at the city's airport.

Vistara, a leading Indian airline, has confirmed the diversion of two of its flights from Amritsar and Delhi to Mumbai. In a statement, the airline said, "Flight UK696 from Amritsar to Mumbai (ATQ-BOM) has been diverted to Ahmedabad (AMD) due to bad weather at Mumbai airport. The flight is expected to arrive in Ahmedabad (AMD) at 12.15 hours."

Similarly, Vistara's flight UK963 from Delhi to Mumbai (DEL-BOM) has also been diverted to Ahmedabad (AMD) "due to bad weather at Mumbai airport and is expected to arrive in Ahmedabad (AMD) at 12. 45 hours."

Mumbai Weather Prediction

The weather department has predicted "moderate to heavy rain in the city and suburbs, with the possibility of very heavy rain at isolated places" in the next 24 hours. The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Mumbai has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall in the city, effective until July 24.

Yellow Alert Issues For Thane And Palghar distrcit

Additionally, yellow alerts have been issued for Thane and Palghar districts, while Raigad district has been placed on a red alert, anticipating heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated instances of extremely heavy rain.

Andheri Subway Closed

The city has already experienced heavy downpours on July 20, leading to waterlogging in several areas. The Andheri Subway was temporarily closed due to flooding, and local train services and BEST bus routes were affected by the bad weather.

In Chembur Link Road, which connects South Mumbai to Thane, water has accumulated to nearly one-and-a-half feet and the Andheri and Malad subways, important commuter routes, have been closed due to waterlogging. However, the Tulsi Lake, a key water source for Mumbai, has started overflowing, which is seen as a positive development amid the city's ongoing 10 per cent water cut.

Rescue operations were also carried out in Borivali's Sanjay Gandhi National Park, where about 20 people were rescued from flooded water with the help of a human chain formed by forest department employees. In Thane, a protection wall on a road collapsed early on Saturday morning due to the heavy rain, but no injuries were reported.

Looking ahead, the weather department has issued a yellow alert for 12 districts in Maharashtra, including Pune, Thane, Nashik and Palghar, and an orange alert for Mumbai, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall in the coming hours.
