Mumbai Rain: After witnessing a prolonged dry spell, the residents of Mumbai can look forward to a much-needed respite as the city is expected to experience heavy rainfall over the weekend. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for the city, indicating the possibility of intense showers in isolated areas from Saturday to Monday.

According to Dr. Sunil Kamble, the Chief Scientist at IMD, the current weather pattern is set to bring substantial rainfall to Mumbai. "We are expecting heavy rainfall, with an estimated 80-90 mm of rain expected on Saturday," he said. The rainfall is likely to be triggered by a low-pressure area forming in the east-central Arabian Sea, which will move northwards towards Goa and North Konkan, ultimately impacting the city.

The city has been grappling with sweltering conditions in recent days, with temperatures soaring well above the normal levels. The total stock in the seven lakes supplying daily water in Mumbai has risen to 94.69 per cent of its total capacity, which equates to 13.7 lakh million litres.

However, the respite from the heat and humidity is not expected to last long. The IMD has forecasted that the heavy rainfall will subside by Saturday, only to make a comeback from Monday, August 26, as another low-pressure system takes shape. Additionally, Mumbai has recorded a total of 2,252 mm of rainfall to date, with August emerging as the second-highest rain-giving month in the city's history.
