The Birhanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said on Tuesday that the water supply in Maharashtra's Thane has been partially restored with 14 out of its 20 pumps becoming operational at the Pise pumping station, where a fire broke out on Monday evening.

According to reports, a transformer at the pumping station caught fire, disrupting water supply in certain parts of eastern suburbs as well as the Golanji, Fosbery, Raoli, and Bhandarwada reservoirs.

The civic body enforced a 30 to 100 per cent water cut in various areas of the eastern suburbs and island city after the fire.

Efforts are being made to restore the water supply to the city, according to a statement released by the BMC.

According to the report, by 4 AM, 8 of the 20 pumps had been started. The supply from the Golanji, Rawali, Fosberry, and Bhandarwada service reservoirs had resumed at low pressure. By 11 AM, six more pumps had been started.

The reservoirs in the districts of Mumbai, Thane, and Nashik—Bhatsa, Upper Vaitarna, Middle Vaitarna, Tansa, Modak Sagar, Vihar, and Tulsi—supply 3,800 MLD of water to Mumbai daily.

In a separate event, a 24-hour water supply disruption has begun from 6 AM today in certain parts of Bengaluru due to the installation of Unaccounted for Water (UfW) bulk flow metres and "essential maintenance work" by city officials.

According to officials, there will be interruptions in water supply in areas such as RR Nagar, Dasarahalli, Vignana Nagar, Nandini Layout, BHEL Layout, Mysuru Road, Shirke, Shivanna Layout, and Defence Layout.

The state capital is currently experiencing a severe water shortage, which is why there is this disruption.
