Mumbai-Pune Expressway Accident: Early Thursday morning, Eleven people were injured when a private bus fell into a 20-foot trench on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway near Khopoli in Maharashtra's Raigad district. The incident occurred after a tempo rear-ended the bus around 3 AM.

According to an initial investigation by the Khopoli police, the collision caused the bus to veer off course, crash into a railing and subsequently tumble into the trench. Officials suspect that the tempo's brakes may have failed, leading to the accident.

According to a Indian Express report, the bus was transporting passengers from Sangola in Solapur district to Mumbai. Upon learning of the crash, a team from the Khopoli police station and local rescue workers quickly arrived at the scene to assist the injured.

Among the injured were not only bus passengers but also three individuals who were in the tempo at the time of the accident. All the injured were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

In a separate incident, a 17-year-old student driving an SUV under the influence of alcohol caused a fatal accident on the Pune-Nashik highway late Saturday night, killing an autorickshaw driver and injuring two motorcyclists. The teenager, a student from a central government-run engineering college in Dighi, admitted to being drunk during questioning.

The victim, identified as Amod Kamble (27), died on the spot, while the teen and his friend, the SUV owner, sustained minor injuries. Police invoked charges of drunk driving, rash driving and culpable homicide not amounting to murder against the minor. The driver was referred for a medical test and the incident is under investigation. The accident reminded locals of a similar incident in May.
