Municipal Commissioner and Administrator, Abhijeet Chaudhri, intensified efforts to more effectively implement the scheme through the Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s Slum Department, to fulfill Prime MInister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Housing for All.” According to the 2017 government resolution, urban beneficiaries with an annual income of up to Rs 3 lakh are eligible for a subsidy of Rs 2.5 lakh to support house construction.

The NMC has spent Rs 112.40 crore out of the total Rs 142.43 crore sanctioned, extending housing assistance to nearly 5,800 families. In the current financial year alone, around 1,500 new beneficiaries have already been included in the scheme. 

Ashi Nagar reported the highest number of beneficiaries, zone-wise, with assistance extended to 1,695 families. It was followed by Hanuman Nagar (609), Laxmi Nagar (558), Dharampeth (552), Satranjipura (513), Mangalwari (481), Nehru Nagar (423), Lakadganj (398), Dhantoli (347), and Gandhibagh (219).

The NMC conducted zone-wise camps from January 1 to 28, 2024, to expand the scheme’s reach under the leadership of the Municipal Commissioner of social Welfare. These camps received nearly 2,500 applications from members of the Scheduled Castes and Neo-Buddhist communities seeking housing assistance. In the previous financial year, the civic body had approved 1,107 new homes under the scheme.

What Is the Ramai Housing Scheme? 

The scheme "Ramai Awas (Gharkul) Scheme for SC & Nav-Buddha (Urban and Rural)" is a housing scheme by the Department of Social Justice & Special Assistance of the Government of Maharashtra. The scheme aims to raise the standard of living of the individuals from the Scheduled Caste and Nav-Buddha communities residing in rural & urban areas of Maharashtra.

Benefits Of Ramai Housing Scheme

Under the Ramai Housing Scheme, beneficiaries receive financial assistance based on their area of residence. In rural areas, eligible individuals are granted Rs 1,00,000 with no contribution required from the beneficiary. In municipal areas, the scheme provides Rs 1,50,000, with the beneficiary required to contribute 7.5% of the amount. For those residing within municipal corporation limits, the assistance is Rs 2,00,000, with a 10% contribution expected from the beneficiary.

Eligibility Criteria for the Housing Scheme

The applicant must have resided in Maharashtra for a minimum of 15 years.

The applicant’s annual income must fall within specific limits based on their area of residence. For those living in rural areas, the income should not exceed Rs 1,00,000 per annum. Applicants residing in municipal areas must have an annual income of Rs 1,50,000 or less, while those in municipal corporation areas are eligible if their income does not exceed Rs 2,00,000 per year.  

Only one member per family is eligible to receive the benefit.

The applicant must own a plot of land in their name.

The applicant must not be a beneficiary of any other housing scheme offered by the Government.

Reservation, Relaxation & Priority

Priority will be given to applicants who fall under the Below Poverty Line (BPL) category.

Application Process (Online)

Step 1: Collect the Application Form
During office hours, the applicant must visit one of the following authorities to request a hard copy of the prescribed application form:

Assistant Commissioner, Social Welfare Office

Project Director, District Rural Development Agency

District Council or Municipal Commissioner

Step 2: In the application form, fill in all the mandatory fields, paste the passport-sized photograph (signed across, if required), and attach copies of all the mandatory documents (self-attest, if required).

Step 3: Submit the Application
Submit the completed and signed form along with the attached documents to the concerned authority within the prescribed timeline (if specified).

Step 4: Obtain Acknowledgement
Request a receipt or acknowledgement upon submission. Ensure the receipt includes the date and time of submission, and if applicable, a unique application ID.
