Navi Mumbai Airport Update: Mumbai residents will be able to use flight services from the newly constructed Navi Mumbai airport in the second half of May 2025. The inauguration is scheduled for April 17, 2025, Adani Airport Holding CEO Arun Bansal told news agency IANS. Meanwhile, the first commercial aircraft successfully landed at the Navi Mumbai Airport on Sunday afternoon. The IndiGo plane was given a water cannon salute as well. The aircraft landed at the northern gate site. The landing of the aircraft at the airport is special because it is considered an important aviation project to enhance regional connectivity.
Navi Mumbai Airport Inauguration And Operations
Speaking to IANS, Bansal said the first terminal of the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) will be inaugurated around April 17, 2025, and commercial operations will start in May.
"The capacity of the first terminal will be around 2 crore passengers per year," he added.
He further said that after the completion of all phases, NMIA's capacity will be 9 crore passengers per year. Talking to reporters, he said, "There will be 2 parallel runways which will double the passenger capacity compared to Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport..."
"We are confident that by April we can inaugurate the airport... We hope that the airport will open commercially by the second half of May...," Bansal added.
Navi Mumbai Airport Connectivity
CIDCO, MD, Vijay Singhal said that the NMIA is well-connected to South Mumbai via Atal Setu. He added that the airport is also connected to other Metro lines, due to which the entire Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) will get access to the airport.
Navi Mumbai Airport CEO, BVJK Sharma called the successful trial run a milestone.

Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis said that skies have just got brighter with successful flight validation test at the airport, "Maharashtra’s skies just got brighter! A successful commercial flight validation test at Navi Mumbai International Airport!"
