The police investigation into the missing helper of a truck driver, found at sacked IAS Puja Khedkar's Pune home has revealed that her father, Dilip Khedkar, had kidnapped the driver after the truck collided with his luxury SUV, the police said on Monday.

Dilip, with the help of his bodyguard, kidnapped the Prahlad Kumar, because they wanted him to compensate for the damage. The officials added that Dilip and his wife, Manorama, are believed to be on the run after they convinced the police that they would visit the police station.

What is the case?

Prahlad, is a helper of the driver of a cement mixer truck when it collided with Dilip's Land Cruiser, which costs over Rs 2 crore, at Airoli in Navi Mumbai. Khedkar was travelling in the luxury car with his bodyguard Praful Salunkhe.

According to witnesses present on site, the accused forced Kumar to sit in the car and then took him away. Kumar was taken to Khedkar's Pune residence and was locked in a room, held hostage, and thrashed.

Speaking about the case, Deputy Commissioner of Police Pankaj Dahane said, "Dilip Khedkar and his bodyguard were in the car when the accident occurred. They kidnapped the truck's helper because they wanted him to compensate them for the damage caused to it".

The truck owner filed a complaint with the police after the investigation was launched. Based on the witness account, the police identified Khedkar and reached his house.

When the police reached the house, Manorama allegedly misbehaved with the team and set a dog on them. A notice pasted on the house was also torn by Manorama.

Eventually, the police managed to rescue Kumar while the Khedkar couple assured to visit the police station next day. On Monday morning, the police reached the Khedkar house again, only to find the family missing. The staff was quizzed, and the phone was seized. The SUV involved in the case was also missing.

The family is infamous for their history with controversies. Puja Khedkar made headlines last year when it was revealed that she changed her surname, forged an OBC certificate, and lied about her disabilities to get into the civil services.
