A 37-year-old man, named Milind Kulkarni, who was working out in a gym in Pune’s Chinchwad, died of a heart attack during exercise on Friday. A viral video of the incident shows that the man took a break from the workout, sipped water from the bottle and suddenly fell on the ground. According to information provided by the police, the man is suspected of having died due to a heart attack.
According to reports, the incident took place around 7 am on Friday when Kukarni felt dizzy while walking towards the water cooler and collapsed on his way. As soon as the incident took place, Kulkarni was taken to the nearby private hospital and later shifted to Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital (YCMH), Pimpri, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
As per Dr Rajendra Wable, Dean, YCMH, the preliminary reports and autopsy suggest that the victim suffered a heart attack, the Free Press Journal reported. He reportedly had 60 to 70 per cent arterial blockages, which may have gone undiagnosed.
Senior inspector of Chinchwad Police Station, Ankush Bangar, said that no case was registered as the death was natural.
In a conversation with The Daily Jagran earlier this year, Dr. Subrat Akhoury, Chairman – Cath Lab and Interventional Cardiologist & Head, Asian Hospital, explained that overexertion in the gym can lead to risks of a heart attack. The situation can arise especially when proper warm-ups, cool-downs and hydration are neglected. Additionally, excessive weightlifting or high-impact exercises can put undue strain on the cardiovascular system.
