Pune News: The Pune Festival, which incorporates art, culture, and sports into the Ganeshotsav celebrations, is returning for its 36th year. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar will inaugurate the festival on September 13 at Shri Ganesh Kala Krida Rangmanch.
The festival will feature a rich tapestry of Marathi performances in addition to regular attractions like boxing matches, the Poona Golf Cup tournament, dirt track racing, and Mallakhamb. Other events include a mushaira, a Kavi Sammelan, and the play "Jan Devachiya Gava."
Rajendra Bhosle, the municipal commissioner of Pune, and his wife, Deepali Bhosale will formally install the Ganesh idol during the Pune Festival on September 7 at Hotel Saras, Nehru Stadium.
The events will take place from September 8 until September 17. Due to scheduling conflicts, the festival's patron and most well-known brand ambassador, Hema Malini, will not be in attendance.
However, the event this year will unveil tourism-related activities. “We want to promote Pune as a global tourist destination. For this, we have organised a seminar ‘Promotion of Pune’s Tourism’, which will feature officials of the state tourism department, Collector’s Office and Mahratta Chamber of Commerce. Fifteen members of Akruti, a national group of women artists, will create a large painting on canvas of tourist attractions of Maharashtra,” said Praveen Walimbe, the media coordinator.
