Pune Metro Update: People celebrating New Year’s Eve in Pune will get extended public transport support this year, with Pune Metroannouncing overnight services on December 31. The move aims to help late-night commuters travel safely as the city welcomes the New Year.

Pune Metro News: Overnight Metro Services Announced

According to the metro authority, trains will operate continuously through the night until 6 AM on January 1. During these extended hours, services will run at an interval of 20 minutes. Regular metro schedules will resume after 6 AM.

Pune Metro shared the update on social media platform X, appealing to commuters to use public transport responsibly and follow metro rules. The authority said cooperation from passengers is essential to ensure a smooth and safe journey for all.

Pune Metro: Focus On Safe And Sustainable Travel

In its messages, Pune Metro also highlighted the environmental benefits of choosing public transport over private vehicles. It encouraged residents to begin the New Year with an eco-friendly travel option, calling the metro a smart and comfortable choice for city travel.

Officials said such initiatives not only reduce road congestion but also help cut pollution levels during high-traffic occasions like New Year celebrations.

Pune Metro: Relief In Sight For Daily Commuters

Apart from the New Year announcement, Pune’s daily commuters can also expect a major connectivity boost in the coming months. The long-awaited Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar Metro corridor is expected to become operational by March 2026.

Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority Commissioner Yogesh Mhase said nearly 90 per cent of the work on the corridor has been completed and construction is progressing as per schedule.

Key Details Of The New Corridor

The 23.3-kilometre elevated metro line will have 23 stations, stretching from Megapolis Circle in Hinjawadi to Civil Court in Shivajinagar. A metro depot is being developed at Mann village.

Important stops along the route will include major IT and commercial hubs such as Infosys Phase II, Wipro Phase II, Wakad, Baner, Balewadi, University area and Shivajinagar. Officials expect the corridor to reduce traffic pressure in busy areas like Baner, Balewadi and Hinjawadi, offering a faster and more reliable travel option for commuters.

Authorities believe the combined steps of extended services and network expansion will strengthen Pune’s public transport system in the year ahead.
