Pune Metro Line 3 Update: In a major update for the residents of Pune, the French mobility firm Keolis will operate and manage the Pune Metro's much-awaited Line 3 between Hinjawadi and Shivajinagar.

With nearly 87 per cent work completed, the trial runs have been conducted on the route. The 23-km Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar corridor is being developed by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA).

The agreement for handing over the operation to Keolis was signed with Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited (PITCMRL). PITCMRL is executing the corridor under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.

All women fleet on Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar corridor

Emphasising its commitment to gender inclusivity and woman empowerment, the French mobility firm has announced that the Hinjawadi–Shivajinagar corridor will feature an all-women fleet of metro pilots

As part of the agreement, Keolis will oversee ticketing systems and operations across all 23 stations and will maintain 22 Alstom-manufactured trains.

Cost of project

The Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar corridor is worth Rs 8,313 crore and is funded through a combination of private investment of Rs 1,315 crore, institutional loans of Rs 4,789 crore, state government contribution of Rs 90.58 crore and central government viability gap funding of Rs 1,224.8 crore.

The original deadline for the inauguration of the line was March 2025. However, it faced constant delays due t multiple factors, including delays in land acquisition, permits, and tender issues.

However, the authority stated that the contractors will be slapped with fines in case of further delays, instructing them to boost the construction work.
