Shivajinagar–Hinjawadi Metro Project Update: The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) officials on Friday stated that the trial run on the 11-km stretch of the Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar metro line is set to begin in September after missing the earlier deadlines. They clarified that while the trial run is expected to begin in September, the metro line will be open for the passengers from next year. The ambitious metro project is likely to provide convenience to the residents of several key areas by reducing traffic congestion and cutting the travel time significantly.
While providing details, the authorities stated that the station facilities are in the final stage, adding that currently the trial runs are conducted on the Maan Depot metro track. He further stated that the trial run will be conducted in one phase—from Hinjewadi to the District Court. He added that the passenger operations on the much-awaited metro line are expected by March 2026, reported the Hindustan Times, citing PMRDA officials.

Several Factors Led To Delay
Earlier last month, the authorities stated that several issues, including delays in land acquisition, permits, and tender issues, led to the delay, informing that the original deadline for the project was March 2025. However, the authority stated that the contractors will be slapped with fines in case of further delays, instructing them to boost the construction work.
Earlier last month, PMRDA Commissioner Yogesh Mhase stated that the authority had received a request from the contractors to increase the deadline. "A request regarding the extension of the deadline of Metro Line 3 has been received. However, the decision will be taken after the joint meeting with other officials and inspections of the work," Mhase was quoted as saying by the Free Press General.
The authority stated that the project is likely to provide convenience to the residents of several major regions by reducing traffic congestion. Apart from reducing traffic congestion, the project is also to provide a financial boost in the city.
