This metro line marks India’s first public-private partnership (PPP) in metro rail development. It is being executed through a joint venture between the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) and Pune IT City Metro Rail Ltd., a consortium led by the Tata Group and Siemens.
Pune Metro Line 3 Project
The project was launched on November 25, 2021, and has since made substantial progress. As of now, approximately 87 percent of the construction is complete, with the remaining work in its final phase. A successful trial run was recently conducted between the Maan Depot and PMR 4 station.
Despite steady progress, the project has faced delays due to land acquisition hurdles and technical challenges, pushing the official completion deadline to March 2026.
Once operational, the metro trains will have a capacity of 1,000 passengers and operate at speeds of up to 80 kilometers per hour, offering a faster and more efficient transit option for Pune’s growing population.
