Pune Rape Case: A 21-year-old woman was reportedly gang-raped by three men on the outskirts of Pune, while her male friend was assaulted during the incident. The alleged attack occurred in the Bopdev Ghat area around 11 pm on Thursday.

According to the Kondhwa police, the woman and her male friend had visited the area late at night when they were confronted by the assailants. A senior police official stated, “The preliminary investigation indicates that the woman was raped by three unknown individuals while her friend was beaten.” Following the assault, the man took the survivor to a hospital for treatment.

The police were alerted to the incident around 5 am on Friday and the three suspects were soon arrested. Authorities identified the men as residents of Pune with prior criminal records.

According to a News 18 report, both the survivor and her friend are students in Pune, she hails from Jalgaon, while he is from Surat in Gujarat. Police stated that the incident took place in a remote area, making it particularly vulnerable.

To expedite the investigation, ten police teams from the Crime Branch and Detection Branch have been formed to locate the accused.

In response to the incident, Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) leader Anand Dubey condemned the attack and criticised the Eknath Shinde government for failing to protect women in the state. Further updates on the investigation are expected to be released shortly.
