Pune News: Pune’s longest flyover on Sinhagad Road is now open for public use after Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated its final stretch on Monday. The project, which began in 2021, is expected to ease heavy traffic and reduce travel time on the busy road from 20 minutes to nearly six minutes.

The 4.1 km flyover connects Rajaram Bridge to Fun Time Cinema and was built in three phases by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). Work on the first phase, a 500-metre section near Rajaram Bridge, was completed at a cost of Rs 15 crore. The second phase, covering 2.1 km from Vitthalwadi to Fun Time Cinema, cost Rs 61 crore. The final phase, a 1.5 km link between Veer Shivaji Kashid Chowk and late Prakash Vitthal Inamdar Chowk, cost Rs 42 crore.

State minister for civil aviation Murlidhar Mohol and local MLA and minister of state for urban development Madhuri Misal were also present at the ceremony. Union minister Nitin Gadkari had laid the foundation stone for the project.

Sinhagad Road is one of Pune’s busiest stretches, carrying nearly 1.5 lakh vehicles every day. It serves traffic coming from Nanded City, Dhayari, Khadakwasla, Sinhagad Fort and the Mumbai-Bangalore highway. The new flyover will help motorists avoid traffic bottlenecks near Vitthalwadi and Santosh Hall, making access to the city faster.

Although construction was completed earlier, the inauguration was delayed due to the CM’s unavailability. With the opening of this flyover, PMC officials expect smoother movement on the arterial road and a significant drop in congestion.
