Pune Traffic Update: Pune traffic police on Sunday stated that several regions of the city are going to witness heavy traffic congestion in the upcoming few days. The authority stated that the repair works, including road repairs, resurfacing, sewer line installations, and underground gas pipeline projects, will affect the vehicular movement in multiple key areas. It further advised the residents to follow the guidelines and stay updated to avoid any inconveniences.

The traffic police stated that several key routes will witness slow vehicular movements, including Ahmednagar Road, Sinhagad Road, Katraj-Kondhwa Road, Baner-Balewadi, Aundh, Hadapsar, and Bibvewadi due to the ongoing maintenance works.

The police also listed out a number of 50 key locations across the city where the vehicular movement is likely to be affected. Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has instructed the contractors to finish all the projects before the May 31 deadline.

The reports suggest that a warning has also been issued to these contractors to finish the projects before the monsoon season to avoid waterlogging, leading to inconvenience to the residents. DCP (Traffic) Amol Zende has instructed the inspectors to monitor the progress of these projects closely.

“Due to poor traffic management around construction sites, we are witnessing severe congestion at several locations. This is a matter of grave concern. All civic works must be completed and roads restored before the onset of the monsoon,” Zende was quoted as saying by the Hindustan Times.

Slow Vehicular Movement On 61 Roads

Apart from this, PMC has also closed some roads temporarily to complete the pre-monsoon maintenance work. The authority has sought permission from the traffic police to temporarily close 61 locations for these works.

“All the work needs to be completed within the next month. The PMC had sent a ‘No Objection Certificate’ (NOC) request to the traffic police, along with a proposal for 63 roads. Out of these, permission has been granted for 61 locations," Additional Commissioner Prithviraj BP was quoted as saying by Mint.
