Residents in several parts of Pune are experiencing reduced supply hours and weak water pressures over the past few days, without any official notification for the disruption in the water supply in these areas. The disruption continues even after assurances from the Canal Advisory Committee that Pune would not face water shortages or supply cuts.

Several localities, including Kothrud, Erandwane, Gokhalenagar, and Wadarwadi, are facing severe water pressure issues, leaving storage tanks unfilled. Many locals believe the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has unofficially implemented water cuts.

BJP spokesperson Sandeep Khardekar has lodged a complaint with the municipal commissioner, demanding immediate action. Officials confirmed that the Parvati Water Purification Plant, a major water source for Pune, is currently supplying 3,800 cubic meters per hour instead of the required 4,100 cubic meters. This 300 cubic meter deficit has led to supply cuts and reduced water pressure in multiple neighborhoods, reported TimesNow.

In Kothrud and Erandwane, supply hours have been reduced, with water now being cut off by 8 am instead of 9 am. Similarly, residents of Gokhalenagar, Janwadi and Wadarwadi struggle to fill storage tanks due to low water pressure. Although water is supplied from 8 pm to 1 am, weak pressure forces residents to stay up late to collect water, the report added.

Similar complaints have emerged from Karve Nagar, Bibwewadi, the University area, and Shivajinagar, where supply timings have been shortened by 1 to 1.5 hours. Concerned citizens have raised multiple complaints and warned of protests if the issue is not resolved soon.

Although PMC has not officially declared any water cuts, the reduced supply and weak pressure suggest an undeclared shortage or rationing. With summer approaching, residents fear the situation may worsen further.
