Nagpur Weather: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has put Maharashtra’s Nagpur and Wardha districts on red alert for heavy to very heavy rain, thunderstorms and lightning. Additionally, the local administration has declared a holiday for all schools and colleges across Nagpur for Wednesday, July 9. The continuous rain over the last few days has caused drains to overflow and severe waterlogging in the city.
The weather body has also issued an orange alert for Amravati and Yavatmal districts and a yellow alert for Akola, Washim, Buldhana, Chandrapur, Bhandara, and Gondia in the Vidarbha region.
Nagpur recorded 172.2 mm of rain from 8:30 pm on Tuesday and 5:30 am on Wednesday. In Nagour, Bhiwapur got the highest rainfall at 12 cm, followed by Ramtek (11 cm), Mauda, Kuhi, and Parseoni (10 cm each), Kamptee (9 cm), Umrer (8 cm), and Kalmeshwar and Nagpur Aerodrome (7 cm each).

The administration has closed educational institutions to ensure safety of students amid bad weather conditions. State highways in Pune were also closed to water inundation. The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is also carrying out rescue and dewatering operations across affected areas.
