Pune Rain Today: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms across various parts of Maharashtra, including Pune, from October 17 to 21. Rain is expected despite the complete withdrawal of the southwest monsoon from the region.
In Pune, rainfall has been reported in several central areas, including Peth, Pune station, Baner, Aundh, Pashan, Khadki, Shivajinagar, Koregaon Park and Hadapsar. “The ongoing rainfall is mainly due to thunderstorms developing over the city,” added Sanap. Additionally, residents are experiencing a rise in both minimum and maximum temperatures as the city prepares for the upcoming rain.
The Hindustan Times report quoted SD Sanap, a senior meteorologist with IMD Pune stating as, “It is common for Maharashtra to receive rain after the monsoon season ends. Currently, there are no southwest monsoon winds, but easterly winds are bringing moisture, leading to increased temperatures and subsequent thunderstorms in the state, including Pune.”
Pune 7-Day Weather Forecast
The southwest monsoon officially withdrew from the country on October 15, coinciding with the onset of the northeast monsoon, which typically affects areas like Tamil Nadu, Kerala and coastal Andhra Pradesh from October to December. This year, both the withdrawal of the southwest monsoon and the arrival of the northeast monsoon have occurred almost simultaneously, a rare event.

In previous years, the monsoon withdrawal had been delayed in parts of north Maharashtra, particularly after retreating from Nandurbar on October 6. The usual withdrawal date for Pune and Mumbai is October 7, but this year, Pune experienced its withdrawal around the expected date of October 8.
For the last decade, Pune has seen a trend of late monsoon withdrawals, with the latest recorded in 2020 on October 28. Currently, many areas in Maharashtra, especially in the Konkan and central divisions, continue to receive rainfall and thunderstorms.
