Pune Airport Flight Operation Disruption
This week’s showers followed a heavy spell between September 14 and 15, when lightning and intense rain disrupted flight operations at Pune Airport. From midnight to 8 AM on September 15, air traffic was suspended and 14 flights had to be diverted to alternate airports including Mumbai, Hyderabad, Surat, Ahmedabad and Goa.
Pune Airport authorities said that normal operations resumed after 8 AM with the support of the Indian Air Force, which permitted civilian movements during military block time. Airport director Santosh Dhoke stated that extra seating, food, and water were arranged for passengers during the delay, with the main focus on ensuring safety and smooth resumption of flights.
With the IMD continuing its yellow alert, residents have been advised to monitor weather updates closely and be prepared for further spells of rain in the coming days.
