Pune News: A drunk driver in a Mahindra Scorpio crashed into a delivery boy on a two-wheeler, dragging the vehicle for several meters in Pimple Gurav, Pimpri Chinchwad. The accident occurred on August 7 at approximately 2:15 PM, leaving the victims seriously injured.
According to the police reports, the driver, Dattu Rambhau Lokhande (39), a resident of Pimple Gurav, was behind the wheel of the Mahindra Scorpio under the influence of alcohol when he hit the two-wheeler near the Tulja Bhavan Temple. The impact caused Lokhande to drag the two-wheeler, along with its riders, for several meters.
According to Punekar News report, the victims, Sharad Kisan Surawase (26) and Mantesh Lingappa Chignur, both residents of Pimple Gurav, sustained injuries in the incident. Surawase reported the accident to the Sangvi Police Station and a case was subsequently registered against the driver.
Despite the driver's apparent intoxication at the time of the incident, the Sangvi Police initially released him due to the lack of a 'formal' complaint. However, the CCTV footage of the accident went viral, leading to the registration of a case after approximately 1.5 days.
Both victims are currently receiving treatment at a private hospital in Pimple Gurav. The Sangvi Police are conducting further investigations into the matter, and officials have assured that appropriate legal action will be taken against the driver.
Meanwhile, in the ongoing investigation of the Pune Porsche crash case, the prosecution has accused the parents of the 17-year-old driver and Sassoon hospital doctors of tampering with blood samples to show the minor and his two friends were not under the influence of alcohol. The crash, which occurred on May 19, resulted in the deaths of two IT professionals. Allegations have emerged that blood samples were swapped at the hospital, with doctors receiving bribes.
