Palghar Hit-And-Run Case: In yet another hit-and-run case in Maharashtra, a 29-year-old man died after a car rammed into his two-wheeler in Palghar’s Manor. The accident took place around 1 am. The accused, who was driving a Mahindra Scorpio, fled after the crash. However, the police have reportedly seized the car. The police have later taken a man into custody identified as Sachin Suravase. He is said to be the car’s driver, not the owner.
The victim has been identified as 29-year-old Sagar Gajanan Patil. The victim’s family alleged that the driver was taken into custody to save the car owner. The family also refused to take the body of the victim, alleging that the police had refused to file the case.

In another incident that took place in July, at least three people sustained injuries when a speeding Audi collided with two auto rickshaws in Mumbai's Mulund area on July 22. The incident left one of the auto drivers critically injured and the accused driver is absconding.
The incident comes after a 24-year-old son of Shiv Sena leader Rajesh Shah, Mihir Shah, ran over an elderly woman identified as Kaveri Nakhwa, with his BMW in Mumbai allegedly in an inebriated state. He was arrested 72 hours after the incident and the police believe the mother and sisters helped him to evade arrest.
This incident reminds me of a recent tragedy in Pune, where a teenager from a wealthy family allegedly killed two IT professionals identified as Ashwini Koshtha and Anish Awadhiya after hitting them while driving in an intoxicated state on May 19. Following the Pune Porsche accident, attempts were made to establish that the boy was not drunk while driving and even his blood samples were swapped to support this claim.
