Pune Monsoon Update: The Arabian branch of the southwest monsoon is expected to reappear in Pune, starting on June 23, after going through a week-long break period. The city will therefore probably see some decent rainfall in the upcoming days. Pune has seen above-average rainfall in June of this year, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

“Rainfall activity is likely to revive in Pune from June 23 onwards. The ghat areas will see an increase in rainfall activity between June 23 and 25, and in the city, a good amount of monsoon rainfall is likely to be experienced from June 25 onwards,” said KS Hosalikar, head of Climate Research and Services, IMD Pune.

Substantial rainfall is expected in other parts of the state, including the Konkan, Central Maharashtra, and Marathwada regions, starting on June 22.

Maharashtra received 105 mm of rain between June 1 and June 18, which is normal-category rainfall compared to the typical rainfall of 102.3 mm. While Marathwada and Central Maharashtra subdivisions received surplus large excess category rainfall despite relatively low rainfall activity, Konkan and Vidarbha subdivisions faced a rainfall deficit.

Maharashtra has received considerable rainfall thanks to pre-monsoon and partial-monsoon showers. Between June 1 and June 15, a lot of places, especially in Central Maharashtra and Marathawada, had moderate to heavy rainfall.

Marathwada recorded the most rainfall until June 18, according to IMD data. June typically receives 75 mm of rainfall, however, the subdivision received 122 mm, which is 63 per cent more and qualifies as "Large excess" rainfall.
