Pune Police on Tuesday arrested the father of the 17-year-old accused who was involved in a car accident that led to the death of two people in Maharashtra's Aurangabad. Police also arrested the owner and manager of the bar which served the teenager liquor to the teenager. Police said they have booked the accused’s father, along with the owners of two and manager of the bar under relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act (MVA) and Juvenile Justice Act.

The accident occurred in the early hours of Sunday in the Kalyani Nagar area, when a Porsche, allegedly driven by the drunk teenager, collided with the motorbike of two individuals. The deceased, Anis Awadhiya and Ashwini Costa, both 24, were returning from a party when the high-speed vehicle struck them at a junction, police said.

Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar confirmed the detention of the teenager’s father from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. The investigation has been handed over to the crime branch. The First Information Report (FIR) reveals that the father allowed his son to drive without a valid license and was aware of his son’s alcohol consumption.

"We have detained the teenager's father from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and he is being brought to Pune and will be arrested in the case registered against him," Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar said.

Section 75 deals with "willful neglect of a child, or exposing a child to mental or physical illnesses," while section 77 deals with supplying a child with intoxicating liquor or drugs.

The Juvenile Justice Board has granted bail to the teenager, directing him to learn traffic rules and submit a presentation within 15 days. He is also required to write an essay on road accidents and their solutions.

Meanwhile, police said they would move to a higher court seeking permission to try the teenager as an adult, citing the severity of the offense under section 304 of the Indian Penal Code, which covers culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
